Kayak Fish Finder Reviews

1. Garmin Striker 4 Fish Finder

Made by one of the top names in marine technology, the Garmin Striker 4 Fish Finder offers many features anglers will like for locating fish when they are out on the water. There are several models in Garmin’s Striker series, with the Striker 4 being their most basic unit.

- Dual Transducer - It has a dual-frequency transducer operating at 77 kHz and 200 kHz so that it can produce readings in both shallow and deep water. It has two conical beams of 15° at 200 kHz and of 45° at 77 kHz. The supplied transducer can measure a maximum depth of 800 ft. or 244 m.

- Transducer Options - A 50kHz transducer can be attached to the controller to allow it to operate at 50/77/200kHz. With the 50kHz transducer, it can also measure at a depth of up to 1,600 ft. for freshwater and 750 ft. for saltwater.

- Powerful Transmitter – Its transmission power is 200 W RMS or 1,600 W peak-to-peak. RMS, root mean square, is the amount of continuous power the transmitter can put out. Peak to Peak (PTP) power is the amount of power that can be put out at any one time. Both measurements tell you how much power a kayak fish finder has, which translates into how deep it can transmit.

- CHIRP Technology - The Striker 4 uses CHIRP sonar technology, so the images it produces are clearer, less cluttered and it allows for better-defined targets. When a school of fish is located, it won't appear as just one larger target, but you will able to see the school as several smaller targets.

The display can tell you where fish are located, but not an individual target’s size. However, at maximum sensitivity, you will be able to tell big fish from small ones on the screen.

This device is a good choice for kayaks as it works best when the vessel is moving at slow speeds, less than five mph. With its multiple features, the Venterior Portable Fish Finder is considered by many anglers to be one of the best budget kayak fish finders on the market.

6. HawkEye FT1PXC FishTrax Fish Finder

Another good choice for a handheld portable fish finder for kayak is the HawkEye FT1PXC FishTrak. Of the three FishTrax fish finders, this model, the 1C, is designed for experienced anglers who want advanced features to help them haul in a good catch.

- Dual Frequency Beams – The transducer transmits in two frequencies, 83 kHz, and 200 kHz. At 83 kHz, it has a cone angle of 60-degrees, and the 200-kHz frequency has a cone angle of 20-degrees.

- Battery Powered – Although it is powered with four AAA batteries, the device is powerful enough to provide feedback to the transducer containing the type of details anglers need to find their targets.

It provides instant readings with information of the contours and composition of lake and river beds, the water temperature, and depth readings. It reads depths from 2.5 feet up to 240 ft. in increments of 1/10th of a foot.

- High Definition Display – This portable unit has a glare-free HD VirtuView color display. The display provides large number readings of the water depth, water temperature, and battery voltage, so you'll know when it is time to change the batteries. It also displays the level sensitivity, which ranges from 1% to 100%, being used to target fish.

HawkEye FT1PXC FishTrax Fish Finder 1

- Three Mode Operation – The unit operates in three modes: fish finder, data, and ice-mode digital flasher. In ice-mode, it operates in real time, and, like most ice fishing flashers, it allows you to get information about what's underneath the ice so you can target suspended fish. It can also provide data from under your kayak, docks and other obstacles.

Although it is normally a handheld device, it can also be mounted to your kayak with the optional suction cup mount. The casing is waterproof, so you needn’t worry about it getting wet.

7. Signstek FF-003 Portable Fish Finder

Fish Finder Features

If you’re like most people, your eyes glaze over when you start reading about the technology behind the products you wish to buy. A fish finder is no different because you’ll start reading about transducers, sonars, screen resolutions, frequencies, and other technological features.

While the technical information may seem boring, it is necessary to know what some of the terms mean so you can pick out the best fish finder to help accomplish your goal of catching fish.

  • Transducers

Probably the most common technical term you’ll come across is transducer or, sometimes, sonar transducer. No matter which fish finder you end up buying, a transducer will be included with it. A transducer’s function is to send out and receive sonar waves to help find fish.

The transducer in most high-quality fish finders is a cultured piezoelectric crystal that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy, which in this case is sound.

The fish finder transmits a signal which bounces off objects in the water and returns to the transducer. The data the unit receives is translated into a picture you can see and understand.

Transducers
  • Transducer Cone Angle

When choosing a fish finder, one of the important aspects of the transducer to consider is its cone angle. The cone angle refers to the width of the signal being sent from the unit into the water. As the signal emits from the transducer down into the water, the wider the signal becomes, the more ground it covers.

Transducer Cone Angle

As the signal goes deeper into the water and widens, the more the signal will diminish. Most transducers are available with cone angles from 9-degrees to more than 60-degrees.

However, most fish finders will have 16- to 20-degree angles, with 20 being a good start for anglers who fish in lakes or rivers with varying depths. While standard transducers have one beam, there are more advanced units with multiple beams to help cover more water.

  • Transmission Frequencies

Another aspect of a fish finder for kayak you will need to consider its frequency. A transducer may have single, dual or multiple frequencies, with a dual frequency model usually having both 20 and 60-degree cones. Most transducers have frequencies of 50, 83, 192 and 200kHz, which is in direct relation to the cone angle.

The higher frequency transducers, 192 and 200kHz, work best in shallow water, while the lower frequency units are best for deeper waters. Also, the higher the frequency, the more details will be visible on the screen.

There are some transducers which have a frequency of 400 or more kHz, which includes a wider range of frequencies, so the images are very detailed. It also lets you switch between frequencies for broader or narrower views which provide more detail.

Transmission Frequencies
  • CHIRP Technology

Some fish finders use CHIRP technology to help find fish when you’re on the water. CHIRP, which stands for compressed high-intensity radar pulse, sends out pulses with direct frequencies which allow for more detailed and accurate sonar images to display on the screen.

CHIRP Technology

The unit using CHIRP sonar technology can compensate for inconsistencies in the feedback better, and the images are clearer so it can help distinguish between schools of smaller and larger fish. You could even determine the size of individual fish in a school.

  • Power Settings

The power of a transducer is also an important consideration when choosing a fish finder for kayak. The power is measured as wattage and the higher the wattage (W), the quicker it will display readings. In addition, the deeper in the water the readings can be.

Conversely, the lower the wattage, the slower the readings display. A low wattage transducer is more suited to shallower waters, like for lakes and rivers, while a higher wattage unit is more suited for fishing the bodies of water like the Great Lakes or in saltwater.

Frequency and wattage work together to display readings on a kayak depth finders screen. The lower the frequency, the deeper the readings will be. For instance, a transducer with a frequency of 50 kHz with every 100 watts of power can give you readings at about 400 feet deep.

A higher frequency transducer, such as 200 kHz, with every 100 watts of power can produce readings of about 100 feet deep. A dual frequency transducer can produce readings from high and low frequencies and will usually have a split-screen display.

Power Settings
  • Screen Resolution

The resolution of the screens on kayak depth finders are measured in pixels, like the display on your television or digital camera. The more pixels there are, the sharper the image will be and the more details you’ll be able to see. Of course, the screen size will also affect the image, so a larger screen with a high-resolution will provide a clearer view.

  • Black & White or Color Screens

More fish finders have color screens as they are fast becoming the standard for consumer electronics. While a black and white screen provides a good display, a color screen which has a backlight is easier to see in the bright sunlight and provides vibrant images when the weather is dark and cloudy. However, the frequency and wattage are going to have more to do with how sharp the images appear on the screen.

Frequency:

The Humminbird 409590-1 HELIX 5 Fish Finder is a dual frequency transducer that comes with both the 60 and the 20-degree cone. It comes with both the 83kHz and the 200kHz frequencies that make it ideal for both deep and shallow water fishing. This means that the unit can be used by both professionals and newbie anglers. It is an important device for commercial use since it helps to map out the area with the targeted species of fish.

The 200 kHz frequency allows the angler more details and sends in more sonar waves. It is an ideal device for anglers who fish in areas that have weeds and other objects that make it difficult to single out fish. The fact that it comes with a dual frequency transducer allows the anglers to switch between the broader and the general view depending on the circumstances.

Power:

The Humminbird 409590-1 HELIX 5 Fish Finder has a peak to peak output of 4000w and RMS output of 500w. This is enough power to allow the unit to provide a good representation of the bottom down accurately. It can give clear images up to 1500’. The wattage is great and allows the unit to display readings almost immediately even when the depth is high.

In fact, this is why the unit is a great asset to anglers who ply their trade in deeper waters.

Nonetheless, the unit can also be used by anglers who fish in shallow waters, thanks to the 200 kHz frequency that allows the unit to display readings in shallow waters. However, the angler will get better results when fishing in deep water.

Humminbird 409590 1 HELIX 5 Fish Finder 4

Screen Resolution:

The Humminbird 409590-1 HELIX 5 Fish Finder falls in the 5 series category that features finders with 256 color TFT display and 800 x 480 pixels. This implies that the screen is capable of displaying 800 dots in the row and 480 dots in its columns. It suggests that the screen is capable of giving the angler more details and sharper and crisper images.

This alone makes investing in this finder a good proposal. When we add this to the great screen that features 5" WVGA display, it makes the investment worthwhile and guarantees your return to your investment. It gives clear pictures of what is happening at the bottom and enables the angler to make an informed decision.

Cone Angles an Beams:

One of the reasons why anglers choose the Humminbird 409590-1 HELIX 5 Fish Finder is that it features a transducer with 20 degrees and 60 degrees cones. This means that the 20-degree cone gives anglers who want to fish in water with different depth a head start.

Humminbird 409590 1 HELIX 5 Fish Finder 5

While the 60-degree cone delivers to anglers a wider area and gives them an upper hand when mapping out the areas they should focus on.

It is a dual beam PLUS sonar that allows for gimbal mounting even though it comes with a temperature gauge built into the transducer.

Transducers:

The unit comes with transducers whose job is to emit and receive signals and waves. It sends signals into the water, which when they collide with the object such as fish, weeds or ridges, they bounce off and get picked send data to the main unit to be translated into pictures and displayed on the screen

. This helps the angler to interpret and understand what is beneath the water and take the necessary action. The unit features a conventional XNT 9 transducer that can be mounted on the smooth side of the boat or a transducer mount.

Conclusion:

The Humminbird 409590-1 HELIX 5 Sonar is certainly one of the finders you should buy as a present for your loved ones. It features a 5” WVGA display, a dual beam, and is the right tool you need for searching the shallow and deep water.

MarCum Showdown Troller 2 Digital Handheld Sonar 3

The device is not just for running and gunning ice but is designed to help anglers find and locate fish hidden in the Ice. It comes with a 20-degree transducer, has a power of up to 4000 watts and comes with a 2-inch target separation feature.

The unit has 25 sensitivity settings, 120 –foot range auto depth scale function, ten noise setting sand and an automatic bottom lock zoom. It is one of the finders that can run continuously on 8 AA batteries and come with an Ice- mode which activates internal heater to aid the LCD in extreme conditions.

Product Features

Power:

The power of a finder is an important factor that determines whether the device helps you in your ventures or not. Note that the units power output is more critical if you plan to fish in extremely difficult conditions. The MarCum Showdown Troller 2.0 has a power rating of 4000 watts peak to peak power which allows the unit to display the reading at a click of a button. It is an ideal finder for anglers who love fishing in icy areas.

The device can translate the sonar waves from the transducers in real time. The readings are displayed on a 5” screen which makes it easier for the angler to pursue his prey with certainty. It makes the device the best for anglers who prefer to troll from hole to home. Even though, it can be used in open waters and can help discern the correct depth of the fish.

Screen Resolution:

The number of pixels the screen finder displays allows the angler to have more details of what is happening in the water. It determines the number of dots that can be displayed in each row and column.

The greater the pixels, the more detailed the images will be. The new MarCum Showdown Troller 2.0 is newly upgraded and comes with new LCDs that give it the sharp resolution that enables it to display the structure, the fish, and the lure as they are.

MarCum Showdown Troller 2 Digital Handheld Sonar 2

The device comes with an Auto Bottom Lock Zoom feature that magnifies anything near the lure and eliminates chances of missing out even on a bottom hugging fish. The images received on the screen are blocky, sharp and crisper. It is a high-resolution screen that makes the device worth investing in.

Transducers:

Ideally, the work of a transducer is to emit and receive sonar waves. The emitted waves will bounce off objects underwater and will be sent back to the transducer and get converted into pictures, which are displayed on the screen. The new MarCum Showdown Troller 2.0 features a 6-foot, 20 degrees transducer capable of emitting signals with a frequency of 200 kHz.

This is a highly sensitive sonar unit that allows the angler to read anything including tiniest solids at the bottom. If the sensitivity is well set, it allows the angler to view the lure and the surrounding. It is also capable of turning out the excessive clutter in the area. However, the clutter can be made to disappear by decreasing the sensitivity level to enable the angler to read moving items below the transducer.

Cone Angles & Beams:

The cone angle is important to anglers because it determines how wide the beam is sent from the bottom of the boat. Luckily, the new MarCum Showdown Troller 2.0 comes with a 20 Degree transducer that gets wider and covers more area deeper and deeper. The 20 –degrees cone makes the unit ideal for anglers who fish in waters with different depths.

MarCum Showdown Troller 2 Digital Handheld Sonar 5

When the transducer is placed in an ice hole, it levels itself and displays the water depth including weeds and fish that are present in the area.

It also enables the angler to get the best reading to make a move. Note that the angler is free to decide whether to have the dual, side beam or triple beam, depending on his experience.

Frequencies:

The new MarCum Showdown Troller 2.0 comes with a high-frequency transducer. It emits and receives signals at 200 kHz which makes it suitable for shallow waters. It is ideal and can help anglers identify fish in icy water.

At 200 kHz, more details are sent to the screen and prepare the angler to determine the type of fish found in the mapped area. The frequency is high enough and eliminates any interference. However, if you get interference from adjacent electronics, all you need to do is adjust the noise rejection feature and clear off the interference.

Conclusion:

If you are an ice angler, you need a device that can help you map out the area rich in the species of fish you want to catch.

Consider buying MarCum Showdown Troller 2.0, which is portable and convenient to carry. MarCum Showdown Troller 2.0 is not just easy to use, it is clear, accurate and cheap.

Intro

If you are a regular angler, you need a reliable friend who can help you locate the fish under water and map out the fish-rich terrain under the water. This is critical because it helps you understand what lies beneath the surface and gives you the advantage of catching most fish.

HawkEye FT1PXC Fishtrax Fish Finder with HD Color Virtuview Display 2

HawkEye FT1PXC Fishtrax Fish Finder is a must have a tool which is customizable and easy to use. The device is equipped with intelligent sonar whose job is to allow the user to tweak the fish finder to adjust and suit the fishing technique being used.

The finder is well constructed and comes with amazing display and settings. It has the best display compared to any moderately priced and wired fish finder in the market.

Main Usage

The HawkEye FT1PXC Fishtrax is a high definition fish finder that is capable of being used in multi-level depth. It is sensitive and has an auto-zoom feature that is critical when you intensify your prey targeting. The finder comes with three operating modes that help to catch most fish regardless of the prevailing weather conditions.

HawkEye FT1PXC Fishtrax Fish Finder with HD Color Virtuview Display 3

This unit has two operating frequencies; 83 kHz and 200 kHz, which help to fine tune the reading, depending on the depth of the water. The unit was modeled for skilled fishermen who would rather use a high-definition finder.

It comes with a high-definition VirtuView TFTN and, a full-color display. It also features VirtuView Dot Matrix which plays a critical role in helping to locate preferred fish dwellings and can be used to display original sonar data.

Product Features

Color Display:

The HawkEye FT1PXC FishTrax finder is easy to read and helps in mapping out the fishing area. It displays figures in bright colors that can be read even in bright sunlight. This is important since it eliminates the likelihood of losing track of the fish because you cannot read it when it is too bright. This feature makes the finder ideal for anglers who are fishing in unfamiliar territories.

The unit has a display of 600 x 450 pixels that gives it a higher depth resolution. The 600 pixels allow the object to stay longer on the screen, giving the angler more time to figure out the size of the fish and more details on the structure in the targeted area. Notice that the contrast of the finder is sharp, enabling the angler to make use of the resolution effectively.

Frequency:

HawkEye FT1PXC Fishtrax is a dual frequency finder that can be used in both shallow and deep water. It has the capability to pick up fish movements quickly. It comes fitted with intelligent sonar that receives and sends signals to the transducer and gives accurate readings that help to track the flow of the fish and assist the angler in preparing and adjusting their rods.

The dual frequency capability enables the device to pick up signals from the fish even if it is not too close to the boat.

The two operating frequencies 83 kHz and 200 kHz make the HawkEye FT1PXC ideal for both deep and shallow water fishing. Shallow water inland anglers will choose the 200 kHz while deep water anglers will find the 83 kHz frequency ideal.

HawkEye FT1PXC Fishtrax Fish Finder with HD Color Virtuview Display 4

Power:

The power of the finder is important because it helps the angler choose where he will fish. The HawkEye FT1PXC Fishtrax is a high wattage unit that allows the angler to get reading even at great depth. It also enables the unit to display the readings quickly, making it an ideal device for deeper water fishing. Also, the greater wattage makes it an ideal unit when fishing in the silt-laden water.

This explains why the unit is preferred by anglers who ply their trade in coastal areas. At 600w, the finder can quickly translate the sonar waves it gets from the transducer, and give sharper and clearer readings. Other than being used by coastal anglers, the unit could be used by anglers who fish in salt water bodies.

Transducers:

The work of transducers is to emit and receive signals. They determine whether the angler targets the right prey or not. As such, they are important factors that must be considered when buying a fish finder. When they send the signal into the water, the signals bounce back immediately they hit underwater objects.

HawkEye FT1PXC Fishtrax Fish Finder with HD Color Virtuview Display 5

They pick up the bouncing signals and send them to the finder where they are converted into pictures that the angler can understand and interpret.

The HawkEye FT1PXC Fishtrax comes with a boat mountable transducer that makes the work of the angler easier. This gives him an upper hand and enables them to pursue the prey with confidence.

Color:

The HawkEye FT1PXC Fishtrax finder embraces the color technology and fully incorporates the new trends of the colored screen that allows for greater details by displaying millions of colors, unlike the 256 gray shades that are displayed by the white and black screens.

The color plays an important role in helping the angler to get more details of what is happening under water. It enables him to take actions that can help catch more fish. The color screen makes it easier for the angler to see even in bright light. It also gives clear picture even in dark or cloudy environment.

Conclusion:

Buying a fish finder that helps you to track the fish regardless of the depth or the amount of silt present is important since it helps anglers take their fishing career to new levels. HawkEye FT1PXC Fishtrax finder has the capability of detecting fish when they are hiding in caves or holes.

It is specially designed to quickly pick out fish signals and display them on the screen. Also, the angler can choose to customize the finder to his preference and so it is an ideal tool for anglers wanting to explore new fishing grounds.

The CD is available in several international languages.

Product Features

Power:

It is one of the most important features that any angler should consider before spending his hard earned money on a fishfinder. Ideally, buying a finder with greater power wattage is recommended because it determines how faster your unit will display the reading and how deep it can read. The Humminbird 409610-1 Helix 5’’ features 480 X 800, 5” 256 display and a Dual Beam Plus sonar with 400 watts output.

This enables the finder to translate the waves it receives from the transducer easily. It makes the readings sharper and clearer. Also, it makes the finder ideal for anglers who spend most of their time in saltwater bodies or great lakes. With a frequency of about 83 kHz- 200 kHz, the finder is capable of giving an angler a true picture of what happens at a depth of 400- 960 feet.

Screen Resolution:

The Humminbird 409610-1 Helix 5 displays a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. This is critical because it enables the unit to piece together 480 dots in each row and 800 dots in each column. This means that the unit can give more details that allow the angler to determine with precision the type of fish in the area he is in. It gives sharper and crisper images.

If we consider the 5’’ screen that the Humminbird 409610-1 comes with, then it is apparent that this is one of the finders that anglers who fish in deep waters need because it is capable of giving them a clear picture of what is under the water.

The features allow for the echoes, data, and numbers to spread out making it easier to differentiate between the fish and other creatures found in lakes and oceans.

Humminbird 409610 1 Helix 5 Fish finder with GPS 4

Color  Screens:

The Humminbird 409610-1 Helix 5 finder is a powerful unit that comes with a 256 color TFT screen that shows millions of colors at the same time. This makes the unit an ideal equipment for anglers since it makes objects underwater to pop out from the screen as they are. It gives an angler a clear understanding of what is going on under the water.

The color screen works well both in the bright and dark environment. It also gives clear pictures in both darker and cloudy weather. It is a high-resolution screen that gives a perfect display of the landscape orientation and enhances the finders GPS and down/side imaging capabilities. In fact, the 5’’ colored screen looks greater with map/sonar split screen.

Transducers:

The Humminbird 409610-1 fish finder comes with an XNT 9 20 T transducer that makes it easy for the angler to get the signal to the whereabouts of the fish. The transducers give the unit a 20° and 60° spread, which allows them to receive sonar waves from the objects under the water.

Humminbird 409610 1 Helix 5 Fish finder with GPS 5

The unit has a multiple of transducers that emit and send signals into the water, which hit and bounce on objects and are again picked up by the transducers and sent back to the unit where they are converted into images that give the angler a clear picture of what is happening under the water.

The transducer that comes with Humminbird 409610-1 fish finder is easy to install and mount. The transducer is advanced and suitable for many fishing needs.

Cone Angles & Beams:

The Cone angle and beams are important since they help determine the transducers to use. The Humminbird 409610-1 fish finder is a 60-degree cone angle meaning that it sends a wider beam that gives the angler a bigger view since it covers a significantly larger area. This makes the finder a perfect unit if you are planning to take the water to the fish that requires deep fishing.

The cone angle gives the best results when viewing fish in the range of 400-600 feet. Even though it can be used to identify fish that is more than 600’, the pictures are not very clear thus anglers who restrict themselves to waters that are less than 600’ will find the unit an ideal companion in their angling pursuits.

Conclusion:

Humminbird 409610-1 Helix 5 has become quite popular among the anglers because it is the best and on the cheapest unit in the market.

With imaging sonar you can ever get on the market, it gives anglers more useful tools to help them accelerate their business growth.

Intro

If you are looking for a highly functioning, versatile yet particularly portable cast-type fish finder, the Deeper Smart Sonar PRO Series is as good as it gets. This is the high-end option from the series and it’s designated to cater to the preferences of beginner fisher enthusiasts to professionals alike.

Deeper Smart Sonar PRO Series 2

With this in mind, you can rest assured that the unit will help you get through those long hours of wandering around the lake or ocean, trying to identify where to cast your bait.

If you are tired of wasting time and coming back home empty handed from your fishing trips, this is a portable, particularly convenient and high-end solution to all of your worries.

What is it good for?

The question should be more like what it isn’t good for. This is a unit which is great for ice fishing, kayak fishing, bank fishing and even boat fishing, even though it doesn’t perform as good as mounted units when it comes to the latter type. This, however, is only logical and it is to be expected when it comes to it.

The unit comes with a range of different perks. Basically, you have to tie it to end of your line and cast it in the water. The unit is then going to get activated and it’s going to start scanning, so to speak, the water underneath it, taking advantage of high frequency readings which will go as deep as 260 ft.

Deeper Smart Sonar PRO Series 3

The product is made out of high-quality materials and its components are most definitely to be taken into serious consideration. It provides multiple benefits and a lot of powerful capabilities which will make even the pickiest fishermen happy.

The best thing about it is that it allows entry-level enthusiasts as well as professional fishermen who want to go for some ice or kayak fishing to quickly isolate schools of fish and target them conveniently. Needless to say, your effectiveness will be significantly enhanced. With this being covered, let’s go right ahead and have a look at the specific characteristics that you want to take into account.

Product Features

Frequency

One of the first and foremost things that you need to take into very serious account when it comes to your fish finder is its frequency. The frequency is the characteristic which is going to allow you to know the relative depth that you can get readings from as well as the quality of said readings. It is mainly dependent on the transducer.

This one comes with a dual-frequency transducer, capable of providing both low end at 80 kHz suited for deeper waters and higher end of 220 kHz suited for shallower waters. As you can see, the main differentiation is based on the depth. You can rely on high-precision depth scanning starting at as little as 2 ft. and reaching up to 260 ft.

This is definitely something particularly important. The dual-frequency transducer is a great feature and it is one of the things which actually make this particular unit as effective and high-performing as it really is.

Resolution:

The resolution of the images and the screen which are ensured by the sonar is something particularly important. This is pretty much the thing which is going to determine the overall quality of your readings. Therefore, the higher the resolution, the better view you would be capable of enjoying. This is something absolutely critical.

Luckily, the PRO+ series of Deeper are kitted with components of higher grade in order to provide the finder with enhanced scanning resolution.

The dynamic range is also significantly extended and this is what’s going to enable you to see as well as to analyze the presence of units which are much smaller in size. This is also going to enable you to accurately isolate and identify objects which are rather specific.

Deeper Smart Sonar PRO Series 4

Colors:

The colors are strictly depending on the mobile device that you are taking advantage of. Now, the device is going to display the readings right on your phone or tablet and they are going to be colorful, you can rest assured.

This is a huge improvement over other units which are older as they would commonly offer black and white readings. Now, the truth is that they are still a lot better than nothing but they fail significantly in comparison to colored solutions.

Deeper Smart Sonar PRO Series 5

The latter allow you to identify depth, currents, temperature changes and a range of other incredibly convenient factors which are well-known to affect the overall behavior of the fish.

This can enable you to react and to use the appropriate lures, bait, lines and whatnot in order to be as productive as possible.

Additional Features:

Of course, there are quite a lot of different things to consider. This is a wirelessly enabled unit which requires no internet connectivity. There is a boat mode available and it’s designated to enhance higher resolution when it comes to the underwater readings. The scanning capacities are also additionally elevated to provide you with serious performance capabilities.

However, the unit is still incomparable when stacked against mounted console sonars. Of course, they are also a lot more expensive than that and serve a completely different purpose. If you are looking for something that’s going to provide you with mild boat-fishing capabilities alongside additional performance when it comes to kayak-fishing and ice fishing, the Deeper Smart Sonar PRO Series is undoubtedly amongst your best bets.

Conclusion:

It’s a high-performing, relatively affordable and contemporary solution which brings serious capabilities on the table. The fact that it’s a cast-type sonar allows you to use it in a lot of different environments which is also something that you should account for.

It is suitable for both beginners and professionals alike and it’s one of the best options on the market so far. The claims are truly justified and the product lives up to the standards which are set forth by the manufacturer. It’s also the premium solution from the entire series.

Getting the Humminbird 409670-1 PiranhaMax 197C Color Fish Finder will guarantee you that the fish is never going to rest calmly again. If you are tired of spending a few hours each fishing trip, aimlessly wandering around the river, lake or ice field, trying to isolate the perfect fishing spot and you want this to stop, you are most definitely on the right place.

Humminbird 409670-1 PiranhaMax 197C Color Fish Finder (Grey) 6

As the technology evolves rapidly, it goes without saying that fishing, as we know it, is also changing seriously. This is something that you should take into account.

Using contemporary technology allows both beginner and professional fishermen to identify the best spots and to channel their efforts towards them.

This particular device aims to do just that in order to enhance your performance and to spare you the unnecessary hassle of having to look for appropriate spots on your own.

Main Usage

The unit is only suited for boat or kayak fishing as you need to mount it conveniently. This is not a cast-type sonar fish finder and this is something that should be accounted for. However, there are quite a few different applications that you can go for.

With this in mind, it’s also worth noting that it’s more suited for beginner to semi-pro fishermen. The reason for this is mainly within its overall composition. It’s an affordable unit, which makes it lacking in certain ways. At the same time, though, it’s worth noting that it’s likely to be the best you are going to get for this particular price tag.

Humminbird 409670-1 PiranhaMax 197C Color Fish Finder (Grey) 4

The overall features are convenient but it seems as if they are mostly tailored for more entry-level fishing undertakings. Now that we have conveniently covered the basic introduction, let’s have a look at the more serious characteristics which need to be taken into account.

Product Features

Beams and Cone Angles:

Now, the 197C DL is a model which is capable of conveniently generating two distinct beams. These are going to get emanated from the transducer. This particular device is actually going to create one beam which is narrower of 16 degrees. This is going to supply rather sharper details of the items which are located directly underneath your boat.

The other beam is the one which is more functional. It is created at the same time and it has a cone angle of 28 degrees. The deeper span is going to include a lot more objects. However, as you may suggest, the level of the details is also going to be lower mainly because there are going to be current disturbances as well as slit which is stirred-up and it’s likely to be captured.

Frequency:

The frequencies are two as the transducer operates on dual-frequency settings as you can figure out from the double-beam capacity. Obviously, the first one is going to be a lot higher, which is going to function in shallower waters to provide high-quality readings.

It’s set to about 200 kHz. On the other hand, the 80 kHz frequency is designated to create a wider 28 degrees cone angle in order to capture the units which are located deeper under water.

As we mentioned above, this is also going to create a picture which is a bit more distorted in comparison but it would provide you with a yet clear picture to consider.

humminbird-409670-1-piranhamax-197c-color-fish-finder-fishing-40c972c4e1546c4

Screen Resolution:

The capacities of the screen of the sonar are also of great significance. Right off the bat, the display is 5.6 by 3.9 inches and it’s about 1.3 inches deep. This makes it a rough 3.5 inch LCD monitor which comes with a resolution of 320 x 240. This is going to provide you with a very detailed picture.

Humminbird 409670 1 PiranhaMax-197C Color Fish Finder Grey 2 1.

The more detailed the picture is, the larger your chances of getting the most accurate information are. That's mean you can ensure that you identify the intensity of the located school fish, how many fishes there are, what speed and direction they are traveling towards and potentially the type of fish as well.

To any semi-experienced fishermen, this information will mean the world as it will allow him to determine the lure type, bait and the overall utilities to take into account.

Colors:

Regardless of what you may think, the colors are also quite important. This particular one comes with 256 hues of color which is going to attribute to the aforementioned detailed picture. This is definitely something to take into account. Older models used to come with only black and white capabilities and a lot of noise on the screen, which made them a lot less efficient in comparison to the contemporary solutions which are currently available on the market.

Conclusion:

All in all, the truth is that this is a great entry-level sonar which would provide you with a very serious performance. Of course, it can’t be compared to higher-end console types but it’s getting closer than most of the units available on the market.

The thing which makes impression is that it manages to combine a lot features in a very convenient manner which allows serious performance while the price is kept relatively moderate in comparison. Sure, there is a lot more that you can potentially ask for but given the price, this is truly the best you are going to get.

If you want to ensure that you have no issues with your fishing trips ever again, this is one of the units that you might want to take into serious consideration.

Are you tired of wasting the first few awesome hours of every fishing trip that you go on trying to identify the best fishing spot? Maybe you want to get in your boat and just identify the best place to cast without having to waste time and bait as well as nerves and effort?

Signstek FF-003 Portable Fish Finder 6

While this would have required quite a lot of effort back in time, now, with the advancement of modern technology it’s not only possible – it’s something that a tremendous amount of people are doing.

With advanced and contemporary sonars, also known as fish finders, you can quickly identify the best fishing spot for the day and take full advantage of it.

The Signstek FF-003 Portable Fish Finder is one of these units that we want to bring to your attention. It has quite a lot to offer on the table so let’s quit wasting time and take a comprehensive look at what’s behind the door.

Main Usage

This is a very popular model as it is slightly more affordable in comparison. At the same time, it’s a favorite choice of many anglers as it’s portable and it works brilliantly. The unit could be used by both professional fishermen and amateurs alike in order to benefit from the unit and locate where the fishes are through the sonar sensor. The package comes with a high-powered and high-quality transducer.

You need to mount the latter in order to start taking advantage of the many benefits which stem from using the Signstek FF-003. Once you are through with this, there is nothing else for you to be concerned with. It’s perfect for newbies and semi-professional fishermen.

Signstek FF-003 Portable Fish Finder 7

However, if we have to be completely honest, the first type of audience prefers it more mainly due to the lower price tag and the relatively great performance which it offers. So, let’s take a look at what’s on the table.

Product Features

Frequency:

Obviously, the first thing that you want to take a look at when it comes to purchasing your sonar is the frequency at which it’s capable of performing. This one comes with a dual-frequency high-quality transducer which works at 200 kHz and 80 kHz as well.

The frequency of the unit is going to determine the overall effectiveness of the product in different fishing undertakings. For instance, transducers which offer high frequency operation are better for shallower water. When you want to go for deep water fishing, you should be looking for a lower frequency output. The maximum depth range is set to 240 ft. at 80 kHz and the minimum one is set to 2 ft. at 240 kHz. This means that the sonar is particularly versatile.

Screen Resolution:

The screen resolution is commonly a rather overlooked feature that some people tend to disregard. However, when it comes to it, it is one of significant importance. The reason for that is pretty simple – the better the screen resolution, the easier for you it would be to determine the intensity of the school fish, the type of fish as well as the speed at which it’s moving.

This is going to enable you to make actionable decisions on whether or not you will take advantage of the information. Furthermore, if you are able to isolate the type of fish which the school consists of, you would also be able to determine what kind of bait and lure to use.

This is something very important. The higher the screen resolution is – the better. This one comes with a fairly satisfactory one, given the affordable price tag. The resolution is V240xH160 which will provide you with an all in all clear picture.

Signstek FF-003 Portable Fish Finder 4

Color:

Older models were black and white and this should come to you as a surprise. Modern technologies, however, have evolved quite a lot and, as such, this has changed significantly. The more colorful the sonar is, the easier it would be for you to identify critical factors such as depth as well as the size of the fish and the distance between them.

Signstek FF-003 Portable Fish Finder 8

This one comes with 512 colors. The display uses TFT LCD technology which is pretty convenient.

Powered by 4 triple-A batteries and being waterproof, you can rest assured that the product is particularly effective and it would do you good. Even though the display isn’t that large – only 2.8 inches, it’s more than enough to transmit the data that you need.

Additional Specifications:

There are quite a few different things that make this product even better than it sounds. There is an auto zoom bottom tracking as well as quicker manual zoom which allows you to identify the type of bottom you are dealing with.

There is an audible fish as well as depth alarm. You can set the latter from between 3 and 99 ft. The life of the battery is truly excellent, guaranteeing the much needed longevity.

Conclusion:

All in all, this is a very convenient product which comes with a significant amount of features that you wouldn’t normally expect in a cheaper unit like this. With this in mind, the Signstek FF-003 fish finder is a favorite choice of a lot of different beginners.

Of course, there are more powerful and highly-performing options but they are also a lot more expensive. If you are looking for a great multifunctional option for your early years of fishing, this is the unit to get and you can rest assured that you would not regret it one bit.

Intro

Long gone are the days when you had to wander around the lake or the river for hours in search of the best fishing spot. Thanks to modern technology, you can conveniently isolate the best fishing schools and determine the type of utensils you have to take advantage of in order to capture as much as it’s possible.

Vexilar SP100 SonarPhone with Transducer Pod 2

Using fish finders has become a common practice for both beginner fishermen and professional ones. The reason is fairly self-explanatory – they can’t be bothered wasting time trying to find the fish when they can just see where it is and go for it.

Sure, it takes away some of the suspension but let’s be honest here – who likes coming back empty handed from a fishing trip? That’s something you wouldn’t have to go through if you take advantage of the Vexilar SP100 SonarPhone with Transducer Pod.

What's the unit for?

This is a fish finder which is battery charged and it is particularly highly portable. It comes with a Wi-Fi transmitter which will enable you to connect it with your mobile device, be it Android or iOS based. The company behind it has gone for the whole-house approach and it has included a range of different aspects which fishing enthusiasts are likely to take into consideration when they purchase a great unit.

The versatility of this particular sonar is what makes it highly requested, favored and much appreciated amongst semi-professionals and beginner fishermen. However, even though professionals could use it as well, it lacks some of the capabilities that you might expect in a high-end device. Then again, the price is also inconsiderable in comparison to the professional-graded sonars.

Vexilar SP100 SonarPhone with Transducer Pod 3

The unit is perfect for different types of fishing as it’s a cast-type one that you can use for kayak fishing, ice fishing, and boat fishing and on-shore undertakings. However, the truth is that it’s not as well suited for boat undertakings but more on that later.

Now, let’s go right ahead and have a look at some of the more serious characteristics that you want to pay attention to when shopping for a unit of the kind.

Product Features

Power:

When it comes to cast-type sonars, the power is one of the most important things that you need to account for. The more powerful the unit is, the quicker it would be capable of displaying the results on your mobile device. This particular one comes with a high power output and it is particularly recommended as it’s going to ensure increased effectiveness levels.

These devices are going to penetrate through thermocline and through different plants and weeds and get their readings from the depth. This one comes with 400 watts of power output on point to point and this is more than you’d normally require. This is the main reason for which we said that this is also suited for semi-professional undertakings.

The Screen Resolution:

Now, you can choose between a colored and a black and white display type when it comes to it. However, keep in mind that colored screens have become the standard against which quality is actually measured. This is due to the fact that they will be capable of producing images which are far more clear and sharper in comparison.

Of course, you have to understand that the size is also something which matters quite a lot. Larger screens are going to provide you with a wider surface area, hence ensuring better views.

With this in mind, you need to understand that this would depend on the type of mobile device that you use. This is not a sonar which has its own display – it will transmit the readings on your phone or tablet.

Vexilar SP100 SonarPhone with Transducer Pod 4

The Transducer:

The Vexilar SP100 SonarPhone with Transducer Pod comes with a transducer which has a transmit frequency set to 125 kHz. Additionally, the device is also activated as it comes in touch with water.

Vexilar SP100 SonarPhone with Transducer Pod 5

Now, in order to be able to understand the importance of this, the transducer has one main function – it is to project the images which are captured from the area which is beneath your boat or where the sonar is cast.

This happens through the emittance of a sonar beam which works best when the device is submerged. The beam is also quite important as it is going to determine the overall picture which is going to be identifiable.

Portability:

This is a unit which is portable. In fact, this is one of its main traits. It is a cast-type fish finder and this is actually something very important. While they provide greater flexibility in comparison to certain mountable units, they are also less powerful and less performing.

However, this is also why they are not as expensive. This is what makes them a great option for people who are just starting to take advantage of technology of the kind and would like to test it out conveniently. This is also designated for kayak fishing enthusiasts or those of you who prefer fishing from the banks rather than going in with a bot.

The unit is not as good for boat fishing because it needs to be kept relatively immobile in order to provide accurate reading. However, it does allow to be trolled but very slowly unless you want to disrupt the picture.

Conclusion:

All in all, this is a unit which manages to stack perfectly well with other ones of this category. This is a well-known manufacturer so quality is rather ensured. Of course, if you are looking for a heavy performing sonar, this is obviously not your choice.

However, if you want to get something for your kayak fishing trips, regardless of whether you are professional or not, this is a great option and it’s going to provide you with a tremendous amount of value, given the comparatively cheap price tag that it comes with.

This is the main reason for which it has been favored by quite a lot of different people.
